Inglés: Introduction: The condition of the environment has a direct impact on human health. Nursing professionals play an essential role in environmental management since they have the necessary skill sets to address various aspects related to the environment. However, their participation and knowledge in this area are still limited. Objectives: The objective of the research was to reveal the knowledge and practices that nurses in Costa Rica have in environmental management. Methodology: A descriptive qualitative research was carried out through intentional sampling in the population of nurses native to Costa Rica enrolled in the College of Nurses of Costa Rica. The participants were required to have a bachelor's degree and work experience in hospital or out-of-hospital settings no matter if they are part of the public or private sector. Results: The participants described the knowledge and practices they have in environmental management, highlighting the relationship that exists between nursing and environmental management. Due to the competencies that nurses have in work settings, they recognized that adequate environmental management can mitigate damage to the environment by reducing consequences such as pollution, diseases and other effects on individuals. This confirms that there is a relationship between the condition of the environment and the health of human beings. Conclusion: The nursing professionals who participated in this research present knowledge about certain aspects of environmental management. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding its relevance and application in the field of nursing. It is essential that nurses assume a more active role in the relationship between the environment and its impact on health, taking measures to expand knowledge and practices in various aspects of environmental management.
