Cancer is a complex entity, which today despite advances in medicine, specifically in the field of radiology in recent years, is a challenge for health personnel. It has been shown that cancer is largely preventable. Many cancers can be prevented; others can be detected at early stages of development, treated and cured. Besides cancer in advanced stages, you can: slow progress, control or reduce pain and help families cope with the load (39). Costa Rica is a country in Central America and the Caribbean increased incidence of thyroid cancer and the second in Latin America after Ecuador, according to Globocan index, the World Health Organization (39). Data from the National Tumor Registry of the Ministry of Health show that in Costa Rican women, thyroid cancer doubled between 2000 and 2010. While in 2000 cases were 9.09 per 100,000 women in 2010 rose to 17.93. Since cases became the fourth most common cancer in women (after skin, breast and cervix) and exceeded that of stomach cancer (24, 32). This has also represented an increase in admissions to public hospitals. However, mortality from this disease is very low and has remained stable at 2.2 %. And although patients should maintain controls for life, health is maintained. The Hospital Mexico, the service of Radiology and Medical Imaging for about a period of two years ago, there has been making fine needle percutaneous biopsy guided by ultrasound, working together with the service of Pathology. Given the current trend of thyroid cancer among women assigned to our hospital, the concern to assess the prevalence of thyroid cancer diagnosed in the Hospital Mexico during the period 2013 arises. With the feasible results of this investigation may document the prevalence of this cancer, based on the current situation in which we live, and thus take actions diagnostic detection in the future.
