Resumen
Introducción. El cuidado es la base de la ciencia enfermera y se imparte mediante acciones e intervenciones sustentadas en el conjunto de conocimientos científicos que guían la disciplina. En el contexto sociodemográfico y de morbilidad actual, los cuidados paliativos cobran cada vez más importancia, por lo cual, resulta necesario ampliar y fortalecer el cuerpo de conocimientos que posee Enfermería en cuidados paliativos, de manera que pueda explicar el “cómo” y el “porqué” del cuidado en esta área. Objetivo. Comprender los significados del cuidado en profesionales de Enfermería que laboran en Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos Privadas en Costa Rica. Metodología. La investigación se llevó a cabo durante el año 2022 mediante un enfoque cualitativo, bajo un diseño fenomenológico descriptivo. La muestra estuvo constituida por 7 enfermeras que laboraban en Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos Privadas en Costa Rica, escogidas por conveniencia. Se aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada, basada en un grupo de categorías definidas a priori de acuerdo con las preguntas y objetivos de investigación. Los datos se analizaron mediante el análisis de contenido. Resultados. El significado que las participantes otorgaron al cuidado corresponde a todas aquellas acciones que lleva a cabo el profesional en Enfermería para, en primer lugar, crear relaciones interpersonales con las personas usuarias y sus familias que permitan conocer sus necesidades y recursos en todas las dimensiones que los o las conforman. Y, en segundo lugar, para satisfacer esas necesidades identificadas mediante el uso de los recursos disponibles y el conocimiento científico de la Enfermería. Conclusiones. Se concluye que el cuidado en cuidados paliativos debe ser integral, abordando las áreas física, emocional, social y espiritual de las personas; está orientado a buscar la calidad de vida de la persona usuaria y su familia mediante una asistencia competente, experta...
Inglés: Introduction. The care is the base of the Nursing Science which is imparted through actions and interventions grounded in the scientific knowledge that directs the discipline. In the current sociodemographic and morbidity context, palliative care is becoming increasingly important. Consequently, there is a need to broaden and fortify the knowledge base within Nursing concerning palliative care, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the 'how' and 'why' of care in this domain. Objective. To understand the meanings of care among nursing professionals working in private palliative care units in Costa Rica. Methodology. The present research was carried out in 2022, through a qualitative approach, using a descriptive phenomenological design. The sample consisted of seven nurses working in private palliative care units in Costa Rica, selected for convenience. The sample underwent a semi-structured interview based on a set of pre-defined categories in accordance with the research question and objective. The data were analyzed using content analysis. Results. The meaning that interviewed nurses assigned to care encompasses all the endeavors undertaken by nursing professionals. First, it involves establishing interpersonal connections with users and their families, facilitating and understanding of their needs and resources across all dimensions. Second, it entails addressing those identified needs by leveraging available resources and applying scientific nursing knowledge. Conclusion. In conclusion, palliative care demands a comprehensive approach, encompassing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of individuals. The primary objective is to enhance the quality of life for the user and their family through competent, expert, evidence-based assistance, adhering to all stages of the Nursing Care Process.
