Resumen

This document is the final report of a research process -under the form of degree thesis- accomplished as a graduation requirement in Social Work; which had as main objective to analyze violence against children, from the perception of boys and girls who are in first and sixth grades at Junquillo Arriba Elementary School; as well as from the perception of their mothers, fathers, caregivers, and school staff, establishing its relationship to gender, parenting practices, and the Costa Rican State's political and legal response. The interest to investigate this subject came from a national social issue related to violent behavior against children from both genders, affecting them in various forms such as physical, sexual, social, psychological and patrimonial damage; children violence represents a social expression that affects Costa Rican society at large. The research process sought to understand these actions from the reality of Puriscal, being this rural area rarely analyzed, presenting this community economic, social and political conditions that restrict the actual satisfaction of basic needs of its inhabitants, limiting therefore the comprehensive development of children. The research process involved the literature review of theoretical and conceptual elements. Different qualitative techniques such as semi-structured interviews, group work with children, family workshop discussion with parents were conducted. This research provided knowledge of the economic, social and demographic developments in the area under study, and it was realized that the manifestations of violence against children relates to aspects of patriarchal cultural traditions of the local area, exerted by the imposition of power, through breeding methods based on physical correction and neglect. As a legal and political response..
