In addition, this specific population may face some negative repercussions due to not having the personal and institutional resources to face the new challenges. Problem: By 2019, the University of Costa Rica had a total of 8,742 students from remote areas, of which 7,940 students received a housing benefit better known as “geographic relocation”; and due to difficulty accessing and contacting this population, the university instances are not aware of their real needs, nor have specific programs that benefit their process of adjustment to the institution. Objective: To analyze the process of college adjustment through the framework of the intermediate and structural social determinants of health, of students who are beneficiaries of the housing benefit “geographic relocation” and were admitted to Rodrigo Facio Campus from University of Costa Rica in the years 2018-2019. Method: the study had the collaboration of 14 university students, who participated in semi-structured interviews. After the interview, the group was divided in two, so half of the participants attended a focus group and the other half a discussion group. Findings: it was identified that in their process of college adjustment, the context and the assumption of greater responsibilities correspond to transversal characteristics that were very important in the establishment of contributing factors, such as physical activity, leisure time activities, friends, among others; and hindering factors, such as eating habits, sleep hygiene, self-sufficiency, family, among others. Therefore, it was proposed to the university instances...
